Regensburg, Germany

The Old Stone Bridge in Regensburg, construction began in 1135 crossing the Danube River. For more than 800 years, until the 1930s, it was the city's only bridge across the river.

Legend has it, the builder made a bet with the master builder of the cathedral to see which would be completed sooner. After the cathedral construction progressed much faster, the bridge builder made a pact with the devil. The devil would stand by him if he got the first three souls that would cross the new bridge...the bridge was completed first and the bridge builder sent two chickens and a dog across the bridge first to satisfy his deal with the devil.
